The Headwaters Relay course begins in Headwaters State Park just northeast of Three Forks, Montana, and ends more than 200 miles to the south at Hellroaring Creek at the eastern end of the Centennial Mountains, where the source of the Missouri River is found.

The descriptions of all Relay legs and exchange points are downloadable. Descriptions for the most recent running (2021) are here. The race route changes as little as possible from year to year. Updates for the 2022 race will be available a week or so before the race. You will need one copy for each vehicle. 

 

 

Auto Detour Details 

Some sections of the course are either too rugged, too narrow, or otherwise too ... something, to allow vehicles (or more than one team car) to use. So, we've defined some detours that either all, or all but one team car is required to take. The descriptions of these auto detours are downloadable here. Again, any updates for the 2022 race will be posted about a week before the race. You will need one copy for each vehicle.
